Mephedrone, also known as 4-methyl methcathinone (4-MMC) or 4-methyl-ephedrine is a synthetic stimulant substance of the amphetamine and cathinone classes. It is chemically like the cathinone compounds found in typically the khat plant of western Africa. It comes in the form of tablets or a crystalline powder which usually users can swallow, snort or inject, producing comparable effects to cocaine.
Mephedrone was first synthesised in 1929, but did not become well regarded until it was rediscovered in 2003 at which point it was 100 % legal to produce and possess in many countries.
